A Blessed Autumn to All!

Well, we shall first thank Stephanie for catching a typo – thanks for sending us the correction, Stephanie!

And next we want to make a long-overdue hats-off to the wonderful Ashland Hostel in  Ashland, Oregon (of the famed Oregon Shakespeare Festival)!  We had the pleasure of staying at this lovely establishment under the gentle care of hostel owners Annie Dunn and Sidney Taylor – two human beings who clearly love what they do and do it so well we just had to let y’all know!

So, you start with one of the most adorable and visitor-friendly little towns in the state of Oregon – its surrounded by stunning mountains, filled with quaint and interesting shops, overflowing with eateries of every sort, and is home to Lithia Park, one of the more delightful walking parks we have experienced.(And we happened to pass through on an Cynthia’s West African Dance Class night – what a wild and wonderful treat)

Then you have the Shakespeare Festival, which speaks for itself.  Not to mention the many colorful characters in and about town. . .

Add to this that the hostel itself is a treasure; to quote from their website, “… the oldest hostel in Ashland and is celebrating 30 years of private operation. It is a 100 year old home that is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places”.   The building itself is lovely – It harbors none of the usual ‘hostel grunge’ – to the contrary, Annie and Sidney have created a haven of a home – and home is just what it feels like – staying there is like being in their home in the best way; its clean and beautiful, and not only are Annie and Sidney the warmest of hosts, but every guest I encountered in the place was a kind, respectful and interesting soul.  The love Annie and Sidney feel for this place and their guests shines in every corner of the place!
